Kern Richards began his musical life as a small child sitting and listening beneath the Steinway piano which was played by his musically gifted and classically trained mother. That, along with relentless reading of Webster's American English-language dictionaries and access to his father's Kay acoustic guitar set him on a trajectory to the musical place which he now inhabits.
With his Tom Waits-like gravel voice and Johnny Cash style, Kern Richards speaks
to the Country Western traditional audience as well as to the rocker in
us all. His songs of heartbreak, loneliness and dissolution are sung by
a master storyteller with a unique sense of humor, irony and warmth.
Kern
Richards has shared the stage with a diverse range of elite performers
including American Folk Legend Ramblin’ Jack Elliott,
songwriter/producer Stevie Tombstone, banjo artist Buck Thrailkill,
Country songwriter
Chris Gaffney, cowpunks Tex And The Horseheads, L.A. Bluesman Top
Jimmy, Dave Alvin (The Guilty Men,
Blasters, X), I See Hawks in L.A., Western soul artists the Hacienda
Brothers, Flea, and percussionist Stephen Hodges (Tom Waits' band, Mavis
Staples), among many others.
